If You Help, Is It Bad? It's just skin color...

Some of you may have heard about a woman named, Rachel Dolezal. Long story short, she pretended to be black so that she could help and African-American group (NAACP). She ended up becoming the leader of the group. She also had many blogs about being black and all the racism that she faced. After people found out that she was actually white, people became very angry and offended at the fact that she did it. She was very determined to be African-American, but she did go to extremes. She sent herself hate mail about the fact that she was black and made it look like the neighbors were sending it to her.

In my opinion, what she did was not what most of us would have done, but I don't think it was all that bad. I think that she probably felt like she wouldn't be welcomed (like she wanted to be) into the group if she was white so because she wanted to be part of the group she "became" black so they would welcome her with open arms. Though most people think that what she did was very extreme (including me), was it really that wrong if she helped them so much? If I was in the group I would definitely be curious as to why she would go through this much trouble to be in a group. But I wouldn't be mad at her, because she just wanted to help.

There are rumors that she was mentally ill and that is why she went to just extremes to be a part of this group. I don't know if she will go to jail or to a mental institution. I think it would be unnecessary for her to go to jail, because she didn't commit a crime, she just changed her skin color and how people looked at her. Men and women do it all the time to change there gender, why is it worse to change your race? I do understand that some people may think that it's okay to change your skin color to be in a group that is thought to be more powerful than the others (Micheal Jackson) but not the other way around. I think that if you want to be a different gender or be a part of a different race than it's your choice and no one has the right to judge you.

  1. It's not about skin color. It's about honesty, and the idea that if a person is willing to lie about such a thing as one's race, then what else would she be willing to lie about?

  2. I don't agree that it's all about honesty. I believe it is more about motivation. That should be considered when judging this, and all, action.
